Caring for Your New Tattoo

You got the tattoo and now you're home and can’t remember what what directions I gave you for aftercare…Have no fear!

  1.  Keep the second skin on for 5-7 days following your tattoo appointment.  If all goes well it should easily want to stay on for the full 7 days (the closer you can get to the 7 days the better.).  You are ok to shower with the second skin on - you do NOT want to submerge the tattoo in a bath, pool, hot tub, lake, ocean, festering bogs etc etc etc

  2.  When you reach the seventh day you can gently take off the bandage in the shower.  With soapy hands gently roll back the edges of the bandage and slowly peel it back.  When the bandage is removed wash it with mild soap and pat dry.

  3. Keep your tattoo moisturized but not wet.  I prefer to use Aquaphor (can find this at your local pharmacy) - it is an ointment style lotion so a little goes a long way.  Use as small amount as you can that moisturizers the skin but does not leave a greasy film.  Your tattoo should never feel or look like it is extremely dry. Be consistent with keeping it hydrated.

  4. Keep your tattoo clean and moisturized over the next 2-4 weeks and do not submerge the tattoo (showering is ok).

  5. Email me with any questions!  It is never a bother :)

Understanding the Healing Process

The healing process typically takes up to 4 weeks, depending on the size and intricacy of your tattoo. During this time, you may experience some peeling and itchy sensation. It's crucial to keep your tattoo (and yourself!) well hydrated and  avoid picking at the tattoo to ensure optimal healing.

Special Care Tips

Certain areas of the body may require special attention during the healing phase. For instance, tattoos on joints or areas that experience friction may take longer to heal. Keep these areas moisturized and avoid tight clothing to allow your tattoo to heal properly.
